Personal Equipment
(extract from Philmont 2006 Guidebook to Adventure)


__ backpack with padded hip belt
    internal frame: 4,800 cu in +/-  
    external frame: 4,000 cu in +/-
__ pack cover (waterproof nylon)
__ 6-12 gallon size Ziploc bags to pack clothes

__ sleeping bag in stuff sack (with plastic bag)
__ sleeping clothes (T-shirt and shorts will do) 
__ foam sleeping pad (closed cell or Therma-Rest)

__ hiking boots (broken-in!!)
__ lightweight sneakers (old tennis shoes)
__ 3 pairs heavy socks (wool)
__ 3 pairs sock liners (polypro)
__ 3 pairs underwear
__ 2 T Shirts, (not nylon)
__ 2 hiking shorts
__ 1 hat or cap (flexible, with brim)

__ 1 long sleeve shirt
__ 1 long pants (cotton or nylon.  NO heavy jeans!)
__ 1 insulated underwear (polypro)

__ 1 jacket (windbreaker, polar fleece)
__ 1 glove liners or mittens (wool or polypro)
__ 1 rain gear (must bring!)
__ several plastic bags (large/medium garbage bags, 1-gal Ziploc bags)


__ 3 or 4 one qt. water bottles (must bring!) 
__ bowl for eating
__ cup (plastic is OK)
__ spoon

__ small pocketknife
__ matches and lighter in waterproof container
__ small flashlight or head lamp (Bring extra batteries and bulb!)
__ Philmont topo map
__ compass

__ 2 handkerchiefs 
__ toothbrush/toothpaste
__ soap, shampoo
__ camp towel (lightweight)
__ sunglasses
__ lip balm chapstick (SPF 25)
__ sunscreen
__ ditty bag for personal items in the bear bag
__ money ($10-$20 in small bills)

__ camera and film (if use digital camera, bring enough memory and batteries)
__ note pad and pen
__ postcards, pre-stamped
__ whistle
__ watch
__ daypack for side hikes


NO RADIOS, CD/MP3 PLAYERS, VIDEO GAME DEVICES OR HAMMOCKS. CELL PHONES ARE DISCOURAGED. DO NOT BRING DEODORANT.
